The shift
Cities have changed how they serve the people who build in them.
Today's cities share a great deal with the cities of the past, but many have taken bold new moves to evolve the way they serve their residents. Technology drove much of it. So did something else: inclusive approaches to solving economic development challenges.
The old model chased large employers and hoped a workforce would follow. That model left most founders outside the door.
Equity lens
Access for anyone with a fundamentally sound idea.
Our Community Entrepreneurship Accelerators broaden a community's focus on entrepreneurial support and place an equity lens on the work, so more access to resources reaches founders with fundamentally sound business ideas, not only the ones who already had connections.
Method
Full-time Local Directors and a part-time Project Manager who know the stakeholders and the landscape of their own city.
Map the real barriers
Community-fed solutions
Short-term pilot projects
Scale what proves itself
The room
Diverse perspectives make the work deeper.
Each community gathers cross-sector stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds. Bringing those perspectives together broadens the view, surfaces new understanding and informs the process far more comprehensively than any single institution could.
All of it is done with the entrepreneur front of mind: a true human-centred design approach, where solutions are shaped by the unique circumstances of each community, and backed by the full UnCult ecosystem.
The proof
Twelve are ready to implement, thanks to collective funding in each city.
Over time we learned what could be tested, learned from and potentially scaled. It looked different in every city, and that is the point.
Workspaces
Work from over fifty locations across Malaysia for the length of the accelerator. Every glow on the map is a place you can build from.
Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Ipoh, Kuantan, Miri and dozens more. Wherever you are building, there is a desk, a room and a community waiting.
